There's more to character than meets the eye.

 

Dynamic A character who changes during the story
Round A character who shows varied and sometimes contradictory traits
Static A character who remains primarily the same throughout the story
Flat A character who reveals only one personality trait
Internal The feelings, beliefs, and values of a character
External The physical traits of the character
Protagonist The main character in the story
Direct Characterization The writer makes direct statements about the character's personality.
Indirect Characterization The writer reveals a character's personality through the character's words and actions and through what other characters say and think about the character.
Antagonist A person or force who opposes the protagonist (central character) in the story.
