Picky and Tricky: Modern Language Association (MLA) Style Information Guide |
Introduction:This information guide is designed to help you, students at the high school level, but also to help teachers who may want to be able to provide a resource for students. The books listed here are based on the available resources at various branches of the Lexington Public Library; an academic library such as the University of Kentucky’s W. T. Young Library may have more resources, but it may be too overwhelming for you if you’re a beginning researcher. Even if a resource is not found at your nearest public library, LPL offers a service to have the book you want delivered to the library closest to you using a Hold request. All you need is a library card!Modern Language Association (MLA) citation style is a format that many of you are just being introduced to at the high school level, but which you will need to be familiar with to properly cite the sources you find for future papers. As MLA does use a particular, even “picky,” format, it is understandable for you to have many questions. Providing this information hopefully encourages you to seek information independently and to use resources available to guide you through the “picky and tricky” MLA style.(Note: Many of the citations in this information guide are a modified version of MLA style – they were shortened to provide you with the most essential information you’d need to find the resource.)
