Dear Parents,
Your child will have Art for a
one hour block every six days. Please check your child's classroom
schedule to find which day this Special is planned. It is always
best to wear older clothing on Art day.
These are vocabulary words your
child needs to know.
Elements of Art: Line, Color, Shape, Form, and Texture
Principles of Design: Balance, Emphasis, Pattern, and
Contrast
Process: Two-dimensional (drawing, painting, fiber art,
printing, and collage) and Three-dimensional (sculpture, pottery, and
fiber art)
Purposes: Artistic Expression (expresses feelings, and
ideas), Narrative (tells a story), Functional (useful art), and
Ceremonial (rituals, used in ceremonies, and worship)
Medium
(plural-Media): The material used to create art.
Examples: 2-D (crayon, pencil, paint, fabric, yarn, and paper) 3-D
(clay, and papier mache)
Subject Matter: Landscape, Portrait, and Still Life
Cultures: West African, Native American, and Appalachian (Folk
Art)
Periods: Colonial American - example: Colonial Williamsburg
