LTMS ORCHESTRA PLAY-A-THON What is a Play-a-Thon? A Play-a-Thon is an evening of organized musical chaos. As a group, the orchestra students try to see how many songs they can play over the course of 2 hours. Last year’s total was over 2,000!! To help raise money for the Orchestra Program, students ask parents, family members, friends, and businesses to sponsor them by giving a donation or pledging 1-5 cents per song played by the entire Orchestra. Here are some more specific details: 1. Each of our 120 orchestra students will perform, within a designated ten minute time period, ten or more copyright-free songs at one of 15 performing locations throughout the school. During your child’s time slot, he/she may perform with other students in the form of duets, or trios. I will assist the students in selecting appropriate copyright-free songs. 2. Attire – Regular school dress code clothing. 3. A parent/monitor will assist at each individual performing station to record the number of musical selections performed by the students. We are in need of many parent volunteers to make this event run smoothly. If you are available to volunteer some of your time to this event, please contact Mrs. Mayes at Kelly.mayes@fayette.kyschools.us or click here to print out a parent volunteer form. 4. Orchestra members are to arrive ½ hour prior to their scheduled performance time to warm up in the orchestra room. 5. Parents, relatives and friends are encouraged to come out and support the efforts of our young musicians and listen to the great sounds of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestras. SPONSORSHIPS 1. By Tuesday, October 14 - Orchestra students will have received their quota of 5 sponsorship forms found by clicking here. More may be duplicated by students or parents or obtained during orchestra class. 2. Students are to distribute sponsorship letters to relatives, friends, neighbors, club groups, businesses, etc. and return the lower completed forms to school during orchestra class. 3. Students are encouraged to mail sponsorship letters to relatives and friends in other cities or states. 4. Donations to the orchestra are acceptable. Checks should be payable to LTMS Orchestras. 5. All sponsorship forms (bottom of sponsorship letter) are to be returned to LTMS by Tuesday, October 14 . 6. The total number of songs performed will be announced to the orchestra classes on Wednesday, October 15. 7. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, is the final day of the orchestra fundraiser. All money is to be turned in by this date in order to be able to attend the pizza prize party. PRIZES Any student who meets their quota of 5 sponsorships will be invited to a pizza party after school on Thursday, October 30. At the pizza party, students will be entered into a raffle and will have a chance to win prizes! The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for new instruments, new music, supplies and travel costs. Please work hard to help raise fund for the orchestra!! |
