Kentucky's PlantsBy: Sarah Kentucky has many plants! A neat plant that is native to Kentucky and is actually what part of Kentucky is named for is bluegrass. It is called Bluegrass because it tends to look blue and has tiny blue flowers that grow on it. Kentucky also has many varieties of trees. Some of the native trees are oak, maple, walnut, birch, ash and Bradford pear. Kentucky's state tree is the tulip poplar. The state tree for Kentucky has been changed many times, it used to be the Kentucky coffee tree, but currently it is the tulip poplar. Kentucky also has many flowers, fruits and veggies. Some of the native flowers are tulips, daisies, morning glories, daffodils and buttercups. Kentucky's state flower is the goldenrod.
Some of the vegetables grown in Kentucky are corn, pumpkins, beans, squash, peas and peppers. Some of the fruits grown in Kentucky are strawberries, raspberries, watermelons, apples, blueberries and tomatoes. There are plants called cash crops that are grown to be sold for money. Some of the cash crops that are grown in Kentucky are tobacco, wheat, hay, hemp and barley. Tobacco is Kentucky's most important cash crop.
