Famous Modern

Kentuckians

                               By:  Rebecca

Have you ever heard of Brian Littrel, head singer  of the Backstreet Boys? I bet you didn't know he was from Kentucky!  He was also born in Lexington. There are  many people from Kentucky who are famous or quite popular. Kevin Richardson, another singer from the Backstreet Boys, is also from Lexington.  Ashley Judd,  the actress, attended the University of Kentucky, and is from Ashland.  George Clooney, an actor, is from the town of Augusta, in Bracken County, along with Heather French Henry, the Former Miss America, and wife of Kentucky's Lieutenant Governor.   Muhammad Ali, the famous boxer, grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Bit of information: Muhammad Ali's real name wasn't Muhammad, it was  Cassius Clay (he   changed it after converting to the Muslim religion).  Bill Monroe,    "The  Father of

Bluegrass Music," is a native Kentuckian, along with  Robert Penn Warren, an author, and first Poet Laureate of the United States. Rosemary Clooney, another singer, is from Maysville.  Patty Loveless, a popular country singer.  Patricia Neal,  the Academy Award-winning actress, is a Kentuckian, too.  Irene Dunne, an early movie actress, was born in Kentucky, as well as Irvin S. Cobb, who's a reporter and writer.   Dwight Yoakam, who's from Pikeville, is a two- time Grammy winner and an actor, who played in Panic Room. Mildred and Patty Hill, who wrote the most frequently sung song in U.S. are from Kentucky. Have you guessed what that song is?  The Happy Birthday song!

There's also Ricky Skaggs, who is a well-known country-western singer.
