BasketBall

Since the beginning, on February 6, 1903, Kentucky has  held a 76.3% winning average.  The University of Kentucky has one of the greatest basketball teams in the NCAA.  Kentucky's most famous coach is Adolph Rupp. Does Rupp Arena ring any bells? He lived from 1931 to 1972. He won 876 games and lost only 190. His best season was in 1954 when the Wildcats were  25-0. Kentucky has won seven national championships, an NCAA record.

Horse Racing

Kentucky has always been one of the biggest states in horse racing in America. The Kentucky Derby is held the first Saturday in May. Kentucky is famous for its thoroughbred horses.

In 1789 the first race track was  laid out in Kentucky, but in 1875 Churchill Downs opened and became "Home of the Kentucky Derby."

Fishing, Boating, Hiking and Camping

Many people from surrounding states visit Kentucky's lakes and state parks to fish, water ski and boat.  You will see many houseboats on our lakes in the summertime, and golfers on our golf courses.  People come to hike the Appalachian Trail, which passes through Kentucky, or to go white-water rafting on our rivers.
