 Another Fabulous Week in F-3!

Your child has been working so hard this week!  I am so excited every day when I walk into the school.   Everyone is so motivated to learn.  It is truly a wonderful environment.  I hope all of you have had as great a week as I have!

Homework and Agendas

Again, I want to thank you for being so patient with the agendas.  Your child should have the spelling words written in there, and the language arts weekly homework should be stapled inside.  When your child comes to school each day, I would like the title of the book your child read written on the stapled piece of paper, an adult’s signature, and the spelling homework put inside the agenda.  You are welcome to go ahead and do the language arts homework in advance, but you are not required to do so.  I am just giving you the homework on Friday so that you have two extra days do it.  That way, if you have other commitments during the week, you do not have to worry about doing homework on busy nights.

As far as math homework, I will give the math packet on Friday afternoons.  They are due the following Friday.  Again, you may go on and do them early and turn them in, or just turn them in the day they are due.  I will warn you that each page of homework should directly relate to our math lesson of the day.  Therefore, your child may not know how to do some pages because they have not learned it yet.

I want each of you to know that I greatly respect what you do as parents.  I know you have busy lives, and I also know that homework can be stressful.  I really don’t want this to be so.  As a second grader, your child should be doing no more than 30-40 minutes of homework a night.  This is including the 15 minutes of reading every night.  If your child is frustrated or taking longer than he/she should be, please contact me.  I do not want any tears shed due to homework!

What We Studied This Week

I think it is imperative that you get to know what we’ve been doing in our classrooms this week.  Please ask your child to give you more information.

Language Arts – We have been learning about comparing similarities and differences.  This is something we will be studying about more later in the year, so don’t feel too stressed if your child hasn’t mastered this yet!

Math – This week we have been working on our addition facts.  We have learned various shortcuts, because our goal is to go completely “off our fingers” this year!  If you can, please work with your child on addition facts at home.  If you need any materials, please let me know.

Science – We have worked on classifying animals into categories like birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and fish.  We have also worked on comparing life cycles.

Weekly Treasures

Each week, I will be showcasing two students who have been real treasures in the classroom.

**Kaleb B. is a very hard worker!  He is always nice to his friends and helpful to the teachers.

**Haley is very creative and hard-working as well.  She is also helpful to her friends and a joy to be around!
