Holidays are coming… Well, I think we must have been spoiled by all of that good weather. This cold air is about to do me in! J I cannot believe it is almost Thanksgiving. This year is simply flying by. I suppose it is because I am having so much fun with my wonderful students! Cold WeatherSome parents have been asking about cold weather and recess. Typically, I like to take the kids out for some fresh air and exercise, provided it is not raining. Therefore, please send your child in with very warm coats, gloves, and hats! If you need any assistance with this, please talk to me or Raine Clark, our Family Resource Center director.Mystery ReaderWell, even though my husband was VERY nervous, I thought he did a great job as our first Mystery Reader. He read Bubba the Cowboy Prince to the children. Again, I want to have parents, grandparents, community members, anybody we can think of to come in and be a Mystery Reader. If you would like to participate or if you know someone else who could come, please contact me. I am willing to work around anyone’s schedule.Next Week’s NewsWith just two days of school, I decided that we will not have any strenuous homework or spelling words. Your child’s only homework will be to read 15 minutes each night. We will be having a regular schedule on Monday, but things will be different on Tuesday. We will be having our annual Thanksgiving Rotations Day. On this day, each teacher teaches one lesson, and the children rotate to all of the teachers in the complex. We will be learning about the Native Americans, Pilgrims, and Thanksgiving tradition on this day. We hope your child not only learns a lot but has some fun as well!Important News for Parents and Guardians**If your child is ill and has to miss school, please do not forget to send in a note. Thanks so much! ** We have no school November 21st-23rd for Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time with your child! ** We love to see parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians at lunch time! Please feel free to come and eat with your child at 10:45. Lunch is $3.25 for adults. Please take note that it is school policy that no outside food from restaurants (like McDonald’s) is allowed at Dixie.
What We Studied This Week I think it is imperative that you get to know what we’ve been doing in our classrooms this week. Please ask your child to give you more information. Language Arts – We are continuing to learn about the story elements – characters, setting, plot, and conclusion. Math – This week we have worked on addition strategies, and we began our unit on geometry. Social Studies – We have been studying Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee, Iroquois, and Sioux tribes.
Weekly Treasures Each week, I will be showcasing two students who have been real treasures in the classroom. ** Kiel has been in our classroom for less than a month, but he is SUCH a treasure! He is a very hard worker and gets along with everybody. ** Aneya is also a very hard worker, and she is everyone’s friend. What would we do without Aneya? J
