A Good Week

We’ve had a very good second week here in C-2.  Since Monday, we got to finally move into our regular, every day schedule.  I know it felt good for us to get into a routine.  I seem to have a very good group of children, and they are a very intelligent group!  However, we have been working on our voice levels both in the classroom and in the hallway.  I expect the children to be silent in the hallways and restrooms.  I like for the children to be able to whisper to each other while they are working in the classroom, but they must get their work completed.  Also, we have been working on finishing our work in a timely manner.  We have so much to do and learn in second grade that we all must work together to finish assignments quickly!

Finally, we have also been learning to use the restroom at appropriate times.  The children can use the restroom before school begins, before specials, and before math.  They are also allowed to use the restroom at other times of the day, within reason.  Naturally, the children are always allowed to use the restroom for emergencies.  I never want the children to be uncomfortable, but as second graders, we do need to learn how to “hold it,” for awhile.  I have been having several children to ask me to use the restroom many times a day, which can be quite distracting during our lessons.  Now, I do not want you to worry.  The children are allowed to use the restroom.  I am just trying to teach them how to use it appropriately.  Thank you in advance for your understanding!

Again, we have had a great start to our school year.  Your children are very sweet, kind, and eager to learn.  I am so excited to be their teacher this year!  J

Rules of the Classroom and School

Last week, the children and I created a list of rules for our classroom.  I thought you might like to have a copy of them, along with the Dixie Rules.

Agendas and Scholastic News

Thank you so much for sending in your $2 for agendas and $5 for Scholastic News.  Agendas began going home this past Monday.  Every day, we will be writing in our agendas at school.  Sometimes, we will write about what we are learning.  At other times, we will write important messages to remember.  I would like for an adult to sign the agenda every night.  This way, you can keep informed about what is going on in our class!  I will be ordering Scholastic News next week, so I need all $5 by Friday!  Thanks so much!

Homework and Prescription Sheets

We will begin with regular homework this week.  Your child will have a prescription sheet, which is found on the front of the packet.  Please refer to this sheet for information about what your child will be doing for the week.  Let me know if anything is confusing!

I want to apologize to you!  I completely forgot to send home our daily and specials schedules!  I meant to send them home last week.  Here are the schedules.  Keep in mind that Monday will be Day 3.  Again, I am so sorry!  L

Breakfast and Tardies

I know how difficult it can be to get to school on time in the mornings.  Trust me, I have run behind more than once!  J  Therefore, I understand that tardies do happen.  They are a fact of life!  However, we do begin our day promptly at 7:45 in the morning.  If your child is consistently late, he or she will be missing out on his or her education!  Also, the cafeteria stops serving breakfast at 7:35.  I would love to have the children get a late breakfast, but it is not my rule!  If you are running behind, please send a Pop-Tart or granola bar with your child, and I will let them eat it at their desk.  Again, thanks for your understanding.

Treasure Chest

We have been drawing for treasure chest items at the end of each school day.  I am finding that my supplies are running low!  J  If you have any old small toys, candy, fast food toys, etc., we would love to have them!  The children love getting to go to the treasure chest.  I will be going out for more supplies, but I am afraid that I will have to limit the treasure chest to once a week.  It’s getting too expensive!  Thanks so much!
