An Extremely Busy Week… I apologize for not getting a newsletter out last week! I was ill last Friday and did not get one out. As many of you know, I am taking a graduate class, and I have a huge paper due tomorrow. It has been taking a lot of my time. Hopefully, things will be much calmer next week! I wanted to let you know what we talked about as a class today. The first issue we discussed was invitations to birthday parties. I completely understand that you cannot invite every child to birthday parties. That would be way too expensive. However, I have asked the children that in order to not hurt feelings, I want them to hand out invitations quietly or give them to me. The children who get an invitation are to open them at home only. Thanks so much with your help in this matter. Also, we talked about boyfriend/girlfriends in our classroom. I have intercepted a couple of notes concerning this. I told the children that while we are in school, I do not want to hear about this topic. They are welcome to follow any rules you may have at home, but at school, we will not be discussing it. I hope you don’t mind this decision, but I do not want any children to feel uncomfortable. Thanks again! Coats and JacketsThank you so much for your help in this matter! Things are going much smoother. The children have been bringing sweaters or jackets without hoods if they get cold.ConferencesIt’s time for fall conferences! You will be meeting with me about your child’s progress report, and you will be receiving your child’s report card at this time. For those of you who came to Open House, you most likely have already signed up for a conference. If you have not signed up, PLEASE contact me as soon as possible! I have openings on the following days: Oct. 22, 24, 29,30, and 31. I will be having conferences from 3:15 until 6:00. Just let me know what works for you. If none of those dates work, we will find some time to meet!Field Trip!!!Our first field trip will be Wednesday, October 31st. We will be going to the Salato Wildlife Center (my family used to call it the Game Farm) in Frankfort. I do not know prices yet, but I wanted to let you know so hopefully, you can take off work. We will be leaving at around 9:00 and returning by 1:30. I would absolutely love it if you could come with us. The more parents, the more fun it will be! Please contact me if you would like to come. Permission slips will come soon.Basket Items, Sticker Store, Candy, and Treasure ChestWell, here I go begging again! Our PTA is having a fundraiser. My basket’s theme is “Puzzle Time.” I only have a few items for the basket, so anything you can donate would be wonderful. Also, we need gently-used toys for sticker store and my treasure chest. (I spent $50 at Wal-Mart the other day, and it barely filled the treasure chest!) If you have any old toys that you do not want any more, please send them my way. Also, candy and stickers are ALWAYS needed in my classroom. Again, thanks so much!Important News for Parents and Guardians**If your child is ill and has to miss school, please do not forget to send in a note. Thanks so much! ** We have no school October 18th and 19th. Enjoy your time with your child! ** We love to see parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians at lunch time! Please feel free to come and eat with your child at 10:45. Lunch is $3.25 for adults. Please take note that it is school policy that no outside food from restaurants (like McDonald’s) is allowed at Dixie.
What We Studied This Week I think it is imperative that you get to know what we’ve been doing in our classrooms this week. Please ask your child to give you more information. Language Arts – We have been learning about realism and fantasy in stories. We have been reading plays and acting them out. Math – This week we have worked on money and bar graphs. We took a test today on Unit 3. Science – We have been studying landforms and ordinal directions.
Weekly Treasures Each week, I will be showcasing two students who have been real treasures in the classroom. ** Mercedes is a very hard worker! She is always smiling and does her best. ** Anwaar is a leader in our classroom! He is very inquisitive and supportive of his friends.
