Wonderful Two Days Back… Well, I hope everyone had a very relaxing and joyful holiday break! Mine was very, very busy. My husband and I shuttled ourselves between Shelbyville (my hometown), Whitesburg (his hometown), and Chicago the whole two weeks, so we’re plumb tired out! It was actually a relief to get to come home to Lexington and Dixie. It warmed my heart to see my students coming in yesterday. I really missed them! They came back so energized and ready to learn. I am truly blessed this year to have such motivated children! Fabulous F-3 ReadersI want to thank you parents for continuing to encourage your children to read at home. It is so evident that all of my students read both here at school and at home. They are the “readingest” bunch I have ever seen! Let’s keep up the good work as we foster our children to have a true love of reading. After all, that is my goal as their teacher. I want them to become lifelong readers and learners.Mystery ReaderAgain, I want to have parents, grandparents, community members, anybody we can think of to come in and be a Mystery Reader. If you would like to participate or if you know someone else who could come, please contact me. I am willing to work around anyone’s schedule. And if you’re nervous about getting up in front of the children, PLEASE don’t be! The kids absolutely love our visitors, and they hang on every word. All of our Mystery Readers have done a great job!Stickers and Treasure ChestWe have started our new sticker charts this week. Again, the children will use these stickers at the end of the month to buy things in a “store.” If you have any old toys that you would like to donate for the sticker store or treasure chest, I would love to have them. Thanks to all who have sent in various toys, stickers, and candy. It has been so helpful!Important News for Parents and Guardians** Due to our snow day, we will be going to school on February 15th. This was formerly a day off for students, but we will ALL need to report to school that day. **If your child is ill and has to miss school, please do not forget to send in a note. Thanks so much! ** We will not have school on January 21st in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. ** We love to see parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians at lunch time! Please feel free to come and eat with your child at 10:45. Lunch is $3.25 for adults. Please take note that it is school policy that no outside food from restaurants (like McDonald’s) is allowed at Dixie.
What We Studied This Week Well, we did not get to study much this week, J, but this is what we have studied this week or will study next week. Language Arts – We learned about putting ideas and events in sequence. Math – This week we began our 6th unit. We will be working on addition, number sentences, and other computational lessons. Social Studies – We have been studying shadows the past two days. As a bonus, if your child marks his or her shadow this weekend, and sends a note in from you, he or she can earn 100 stickers! Ask your kid more about it!
Weekly Treasures Each week, I will be showcasing two students who have been real treasures in the classroom. ** Teion works so hard, and he is a very good friend to others! ** Kristen is always on task and does her very best!
