 My Treasures in F-3

We’ve had another great week in F-3!  The students really seem to be “in the groove” now that we’re in our third week of school.  It is always such a pleasure to get to know their personalities a little more each week.  I truly have wonderful, sweet students!

Homework and Agendas

All of you have surely seen your child’s new agenda this week.  Please don’t feel embarrassed if you have been confused this week – you are NOT the only one!  I have been adjusting to it as well.  As of right now, your child’s language arts homework will be found stapled to the agenda.  Each day’s homework will be listed on this sheet, and we ask that an adult sign this every night.  Your child will be writing his/her spelling words into the agenda.  Please use this list when doing spelling work.  We also ask that each student reads 15 minutes every night of a book of their choice.  (This does not include reading books that are assigned as homework.)  This can include the child reading to him/herself, reading the book to someone else, or being read to by an adult or older reader.  As long as your child is reading every single night, I’m happy!  J

As for math homework, this will continue to come in your child’s green Take-Home Folder.  I know this is slightly confusing, but I like to send home math work every day.  Everyday Math makes the homework directly tie-in to the lesson taught that day.  This way, your child is getting to practice the math skill they learned or worked on that day.  Again, if you ever have any questions about homework, please write me a note, give me a call, or send me an e-mail.

PTA and Innisbrook

Our PTA does so much for Dixie.  Please join the PTA for only $3.50. Also, your child should have brought home Innisbrook orders.  Not only can your child win prizes for selling the products, but the PTA earns quite a bit of money from these orders.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

Other Important News for Parents and Guardians

**  We love to see parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians at lunch time!  Please feel free to come and eat with your child at 10:45.  Lunch is $3.25 for adults.   Please take note that it is school policy that no outside food from restaurants (like McDonald’s) is allowed at Dixie.

** There will be no school Monday, September 3rd for Labor Day.

** My webpage has changed two weeks ago!  We decided to do one webpage for the whole complex.  You can find e-mail addresses for every teacher, schedules, the school calendar, and other important information.  I have included our address below.

What We Studied This Week

I think it is imperative that you get to know what we’ve been doing in our classrooms this week.  Please ask your child to give you more information.

Language Arts – We have been learning about differentiating between causes and effects.  We also read a story about George Washington Carver and learned some important facts about him.  After reading some examples of personal narratives, we will begin writing our own next week.

Math – We are still reviewing various math skills.  This week we got to use our calculators to skip count and find number patterns.  We also counted to 1,000!

Science – We began our unit on living things.  We defined living, nonliving, and once living things, and we discussed the basic needs of living things.

Weekly Treasures

Each week, I will be showcasing two students who have been real treasures in the classroom.

**Julian is such a wonderful student!  He listens and follows directions, does is best work, and always helps others.

**Olivia is a very hard worker!  She is always nice to her friends in the class and is a great helper to Mrs. Fields.
