 Finding Treasures in F-Complex

What a great first two days of school!  I have loved having my dear “treasures” in my classroom. We are having a wonderful beginning to a fantastic year.  I want to thank so many of you who came to Orientation Night last Thursday.  I had the most parents and students ever – 20 out of 23!  It was so nice to be able to meet all of you.  I hope to be seeing you several times this year.  It certainly seems like I have an amazing set of parents and students!

Normally, I will be sending out a newsletter at the end of each week that will not be three pages long.  J  However, I am trying to answer some questions you might have in this “issue.”  Again, if you ever have questions or concerns, please call, write, stop in, or e-mail me.

Regular Homework Will Begin Soon

I will strive to begin homework on Monday, August 20th.  Your child will be expected to turn in their own homework folder every morning.  We will then check all homework and return the folder to the child's cubby.  If homework is not turned in on time, it considered late.  However, although I do expect homework to be done every night it is assigned, I understand that things come up.  I know you lead very busy lives.  Just write me a note when something comes up, and your child can finish the homework later.

As for my math classes, your child will have homework every night of the week.  I will be using the Everyday Math program again this year, and the homework will tie right along with the lesson we had that day.  Therefore, it is really important for your child to do the homework that night.  I am aiming for the homework to take no longer than twenty minutes.  If this is becoming an issue, please contact me, and we’ll see what we can do for your child.

My language arts students will be receiving homework packets.  These will give you all of the work they are to complete for the week, but they usually have something to turn in every day.  I would like for a parent or guardian to sign the packet every night.

Science and social studies homework may be given out periodically.  I hope to get some projects of various sorts started.

PTA Brings Joy to Dixie and F-Complex

I know that all of you have a lot going on at the beginning of the school year, and the cost of sending a child to school has gotten very expensive.  I am not a parent myself, but after seeing all of the supplies each child brought in and the cute new clothes, shoes, and backpacks, I am very aware that being a parent in this day and age costs quite a bit!  Therefore, I feel bad asking for even more, but I would like to invite you to join our Dixie PTA.  The cost for membership is $3.50 per person.

The Dixie PTA does so much for our school.  They provided each homeroom teacher with a TV and a VCR/DVD combo.  They also give each teacher $100 to spend at the beginning of the year on school items.  Throughout the year, they are also kind enough to provide breakfast and other wonderful treats.  To be quite honest, I am not even sure of all that they do provide for this school.

If you are already a member of the PTA, I would like to thank you for all that you do for us throughout the year.  The breakfast the other day was simply delicious!  Our school is so fortunate to have such a wonderful PTA.

Other Important News for Parents and Guardians

**  We love to see parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and guardians at lunch time!  Please feel free to come and eat with your child at 10:45.  Lunch is $3.25 for adults.   Please take note that it is school policy that no outside food from restaurants (like McDonald’s) is allowed at Dixie.

** Every student in my classroom will be receiving Scholastic News this year.  The cost is $5.00 per child.  Thanks so much!

Our Daily Schedule

Mr. Gray and I have devised our daily schedule for our classes.  Please note that the end of our day changes due to our Specials schedule.  Instead of having Specials at the same time every day, our times will change every three days.  For instance, this past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are all Days 1, 2, and 3, respectively.  We have Specials at 1:20 those days.  However, Thursday is Day 4, which makes next Monday Day 5 and Tuesday Day 6.  We will have Specials at 12:15 those days.  Then next Wednesday will be Day 1 again, which means we will have Specials at 1:20 again.  I hope this is not confusing!
