Dear Families, August 27,2007
We are off to a great start this year in F-1! Last week your child began our homework routine by bringing home a math homework packet. All students did such an excellent job returning the packet on time! Beginning today, your child will receive a homework packet that includes four math assignments, four spelling assignments, and four reading assignments. In addition to each of these, students are required to spend a minimum of 20 minutes reading each evening. (Please read the article on the back of this letter to learn just how important nightly reading is.J) The cover of the homework packet consists of a Prescription Sheet where all assignments can be found. One column of the Prescription Sheet is entitled Reading Log. The reading log should be completed each night with the title, author and pages read for the evening. Students will keep a chart in class to monitor their required nightly reading, based on the reading log. When a student completes the chart (30 sticker spaces), he/she will receive a prize from the class treasure chest! You will find a notebook included where your child will need to complete some of the spelling activities for the week. Notebook activities may include putting words in ABC order, using words in sentences, practice tests, and writing words multiple times etc. Spelling words are listed on the Prescription Sheet. Two of the four spelling activities will always be a word sort, and a practice page, both of which are pages in the packet. All homework is due on Fridays, or the last day of the school week. Please have your child complete all activities in pencil unless the assignment or page indicates differently. Some assignments will require items such as glue and scissors, or crayons. If your family needs help putting together a “homework kit” for your child to complete assignments, please let me know and I will be happy to help by sending home materials you are unable to provide. I encourage your child to complete the assignments in order, doing one of each category each evening. Occasionally, you may need to do more work at a time due to sports, and church or family activities. Most of the time, you will want to spread the work out evenly to ensure that your child is getting practice in each area throughout the week. I appreciate the work that it is being a good parent and thank you and your family for all the sacrifices and efforts that you give to these precious children each day! You deserve the highest of honors! Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Hart |
