Meet Ms. Geldhof

All About Me

My name is Jenn Geldhof. This is my fifth year teaching.  I taught one year as a second and third grade teacher in Oldham County.  When I moved to Lexington, I got hired at Dixie Magnet School as a kindergarten and first grade teacher.  I love teaching the little ones because I get to enjoy all of their first school experiences!

I am married to a wonderful man named Eric.  He shares my passion  for teaching, but in the area of golf.  He is a golf professional in Lexington.  I have two wonderful "bonus" children. Chris is a sophomore in high school.  He plays on his high school golf team.  Katelyn is in seventh grade and is currently busy with cheerleading.  I also have a sweet, little Maltese dog named Lexington.

I was born in Louisville.  My family moved to Ashland, Kentucky when I was four years old.  The summer before fifth grade my family moved to Lexington.  I attend elementary school at Garden Springs, middle school at Beaumont, and high school at Paul Laurence Dunbar.  I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  I have one year left until I complete my masters in reading and writing from Georgetown College.

I have enjoyed being settled in the Lexington area for the last several years.  I am thrilled to help educate the future of Lexington!

My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy has been strongly influenced by my personal educational experiences.  I am the result of an excellent public school system and an exceptional university education.  I value my education and am determined to share my passion for learning with young minds.  I have chosen teaching as a profession simply because it is the only career I could ever imagine waking up to every morning, while still feeling satisfied at the end of each day.  I want the opportunity to give children what my teachers gave to me: encouragement, compassion, success, and knowledge.  I look forward to
the challenges that lie ahead, and take comfort in knowing that I have chosen a rewarding career that will allow me to influence children’s lives.  I realize the important role an educator holds and believemy qualifications meet the requirements of a successful teacher.

I believe learning is a lifelong adventure. It is my goal to create and share a passion for learning with my students.  I believe children have a natural desire to learn about the world and are curious about life.  I plan to teach my students that curiosity is an asset.  I want my students to be open to learning new knowledge throughout their life.

My classroom will be a safe place where my students will learn how to share their own special talents.  I have experienced the importance of differentiated instruction for individual learners and plan to offer a child-centered environment in which all students can and will be successful.  My classroom will be a positive atmosphere where al students will learn that hard work and determination brings success.

It is my goal to create and share a passion for learning with my students.  Positive reinforcement, structure, and consistency in expectations are necessities in an elementary classroom.  I believe that there must be an ongoing relationship among teachers, students, families, and the community in order to maximize learning.  I have experienced all the benefits of a public school education, and feel fortunate to have the chance to reciprocate this to my students.  I look forward to fulfilling my responsibilities as an educator and fostering success in all of my students.
