Glendover Students Celebrate

United Nations Day

         

Glendover Global Studies Elementary School honored its diversity with a celebration of United Nations Day on October 24th.

"To practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors."  from United Nations Constitution

The Parade of Flags representing Glendover's international families: China, Korea, Japan, Greece, Iran, SriLanka, India, France, and Peru.

Ms. Xingqiong He, a visiting fellow at the University of Kentucky, performed a Chinese feather dance.

One Chinese student performed on the violin; her sister played a Chinese piece on the piano.

Korean students dressed in Hanboks, worn on special occasions.

They sang and performed a special dance.

Japanese students wore traditional clothing and sang a song for us in Japanese.

Our Greek students performed traditional Greek folk dances performed at weddings and other special occasions.

This Indian student is wearing a Kurta (full sleeve top) and Chadra (embroidered sheet wrapped around waist to feet), worn on special occasions.

These Indian students share their tradtional dress with Ms. Evensen, Global Studies coordinator.

The Sariya worn by these students' grandmother is made from a six-yard piece of cloth and is worn on wedding days with seven necklaces.

This student is dressed in traditional clothing of the Cuzco region of Peru. She performed a folk dance for us.

The Glendover chorus ended the program with a song about international foods and "Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

"Let there be peace on Earth,

and let it begin with me."
