Q. Do you have "TRY-OUTS"?
A: Every year we begin our season with SURVIVAL WEEK. Essentially this
is the try-out, it is a week of intense conditioning that sets the
pace for the rest of the year. Student athletes must endure a
week of this training in order to be a part of the track team.
After the first week, you can only be dismissed from the team if you
fail to meet academic or conduct expectations. (See TRACK
CONTRACT)Q: How many miles do we run each practice?
A: The distances you run depend specifically on what
events you compete in. However, on general conditioning days we run
anywhere from two to four miles.
Q. What if I can't run that far?
A: The most important part of track is that you always do your best; because
middle school is a beginning level, many athletes may struggle to start out, but those
that stick with it will soon be able to run farther, faster than ever
before.
Q: What if I play other sports in the spring?
A: We have many athletes that play other sports while training and competing
in track. If we can, we will work out a schedule that works so you can
train and compete. Ask us before you decide not to join!
Being in track condition can help you succeed in other sports.
Q. How much does it cost?
A: Track requires you to pay insurance to the school and purchase a uniform.
You can join up for as little as $38.75. If you have already paid
insurance in another sport it will only cost you $7.25 for a
competition top.
Q. Where do we practice?
A:
Since 2008 Bryan Station Middle School has had a brand new facility to train
on just a short jog from the front doors of the middle school. We also
take advantage of our local Constitution Park for conditioning workouts,
grass circuits and ultimate frisby.
Q: What are the events in track & field?
A: Select the "order of events" from forms above for a complete
listing of all the events offered.
Q: Do we run outside when it's cold out?
A: Because of the time of year weather changes quickly. All though we
always prefer to have warm, sunny days for practice and competition this is
not always the case; which is why it is important to come prepared for cool
and rainy conditions. (See MESSAGE BOARD) |
